Description
Madelin Coit is a multidisciplinary artist working in a variety of mediums. She began her career in the 1970's after attending the Cal Arts Design School. Her work uses geometric forms to evoke an emotional response from the viewer and through the use of repetitive patterns she creates a perception of movement. Dark Left II is an early work using these techniques. In 2006, Madelin Coit created the 'Clamped Eights Series,' which evolved from her earlier graphite work such as Dark Left II. The Clamped Eights Series was created by placing an aluminum clamp on eight sheets of engineered cut paper leaving the horizontal bars to flare out or disfigure in an abstract sculptural manner. This work is reminiscent of automotive designs for grille work and mechanical instrumentation.
