Abstract
MECH550 was originally conceived of as a Mezzanine Level course that could be taken by both undergraduate and graduate students. The content was the same for the two groups of students. The course is now being split into an undergraduate and graduate version of the class. The proposed MECH650 undergraduate class will incorporate additional and advanced course material. Examples include a project to write the data reduction software to create 4-pole Butterworth Filters to condition crash safety data. The undergraduate students are simply provided a functional filter to use. Other assignments include the calculation of additional injury prediction measures (Nij) for the semester project and the development of a pretensioner in their crash simulation.
